Second Reality Feminicides in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua

Abstract

Even though the femicide crisisin Ciudad Juarez began 30 years ago, it was not until 2008 when the city became the most dangerous location in the world. As a result, the city experienced hundreds of homicides; but men were not the only ones targeted since women also participated in this struggle for power. The methodology used in this article is a documentary inquiry that aims to review the femicides as a second reality, a concept created by Rita Segato. Segato proposes that the drug war femicides acquire a gender element when the gangs use the female body to manifest their revenge.
