Abstract

L'objectif de ce papier est d'évaluer l'effet de la transition démographique sur la croissance économique dans les pays d'Afrique subsaharienne. Pour y parvenir, nous utilisons un modèle de croissance économique néoclassique dans lequel nous évaluons l'effet empirique de la transition de la natalité et celui de la mortalité sur la croissance du PIB réel par habitant de 22 pays sur la période 1990-2017. Après avoir utilisé la méthode des moments généralisés GMM en système, nous aboutissons à la conclusion que la transition démographique des pays d'Afrique subsaharienne a une influence ambiguë sur leur croissance économique, car tandis que la transition de la natalité exerce une influence positive sur la croissance économique, celle de la mortalité n'a pas d'effets.
