Abstract

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) represents India's official higher education ranking system designed to balance national development priorities with global academic competitiveness.
This study presents a comparative academic analysis of NIRF and major global university ranking systems, including QS, Times Higher Education (THE), and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
Using conceptual regression modeling and structural equation modeling frameworks, the study examines how NIRF indicators-particularly research productivity, inclusivity, and sustainability alignment-predict global ranking outcomes.
The findings indicate that NIRF functions both as a domestic accountability mechanism and as a strategic pathway toward global recognition.
